Sarnano, a mediaeval borgo in the Macerata province, in the Marche  region, at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains is located at about 600  meters on the sea level and has always been an appreciated tourist  resort and a renowned termal centre.

In the very ancient and high part of the town there is the church of  Santa Maria Assunta, where valuable works of art are kept, such as  those by Lorenzo di Alessandro, Girolamo di Giovanni, Nicolò Alunno and  Pietro Alemanno. 
In the Alta square you can admire also the Palazzo del Popolo -  transformed into a splendid theatre in the last century; the Palazzo  dei Priori and the Palazzo del Podestà. 
Going down the streets you come about the Picture gallery, in which  very interesting works are preserved, among which a Madonna by Vittore  Crivelli and the library, gathering several manuscripts dating back to  the XIII and XIV centuries. The Museum of Ancient and Modern weapons is  particularly interesting, the Museum of the Hammer and the Museum of  the Flora and Avifauna of the Apennines.
The tourist who discovers these places realizes that, apart from the  beauty and the harmony of the territory, there lands still preserve  everywhere fragments and witnesses of a past which lives on in the  various churches, monasteries, abbeys, sculptures, frescoes and all  other works which enrich this town. Sarnano is located not far from the 
Monti  Sibillini National Park, as well as from interesting cultural,  gastronomic and tourist places in the 
Provinces  of Macerata and 
Ascoli  Piceno, such as 
 the Opera Festival of the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, the 
Monte Conero National Park,  tens of festivals and gastronomic events, concerts, mediaeval towns  and ancient churches.
